Personally I found 2017 to be a great year for discovering new beauty products. The arrival of the Kat Von D counter in my local Debenhams paired with trips to Sephora in Paris and New York certainly left me feeling a little spendy. So heres a look at some of the best products I picked up in 2017.
Kat von D Lock It Concealer
The Lock It concealer is a great all rounder, its the super creamy, slightly thicker cousin of the UD Naked Concealer which I also love. It really does last all day and rarely creases on me, another great thing about the KvD range is that theres a pretty large shade selection, which is always appreciated for super pale girls like myself. I can definitely see this concealer being repurchased in the future.
Kat von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in 'Lolita 2'
This is another cult product from KvD, the brand hosts a huge range of liquid lipstick shades however their neutral shades Lolita and Lolita 2 are two of the most popular. The formula of this is again really creamy and doesn't leave my lips overly dry like other liquid lipsticks. However I do find that this shade needs to be reapplied after eating or else I'm left looking like I've gone overboard with the lipliner and neglected the rest of my lips. Overall though this is a really flattering shade and comfortable formula to wear on the lips, whilst the neat doe foot applicator makes this a brilliant product for liquid lip newbies.
Benefit Boing Concealer
This staple concealer from Benefit is another which I had never gotten around to trying. I received this mini size as a free sample from Sephora in NYC (the girls in there are so lovely.) I tend to use this on more minimal makeup days for something quick and easy to pop on, also the fact that you can pop it on with your fingers makes it good for handbag top-ups throughout the day and a pretty fuss free product.
Anastasia Clear Brow Gel
Who would guess that I would be smitten with a clear brow gel of all things? However theres just something special about this gel which makes me look that bit more put together than I look without it. It's not something I wear every day but I always feel like theres a noticeable difference when I have used it. Again I received this adorable mini from Sephora in New York but I was lucky enough to receive a full size one for Christmas. I think its safe to say that 2018 is going to bring quite a few good brow days.
Bite Beauty Lipstick in 'Beetroot'
Now this might possibly be my overall favourite purchase in this post. Bite Beauty make some truly amazing lip products, I only own two lipsticks from them but they take pride of place in my collection. There is something about this shade that is just so stunning, and complements my skin really well. Not-quite-red and not-quite-berry, but somewhere in between this is a perfect shade for the winter months. The formula of Bite lipsticks is incredible, if you haven't tried one yet then what are you waiting for?!
Fleur de Force Lashes in 'Fleur Loves' and 'Fleur and Fabulous'
I've repurchased these lashes so many times and they never fail me, the Fleur de Force collaboration with eyelure has a great range of lashes to suit every occasion, all of which are super feminine and easy to apply - the only ones I don't seem to get on with are the individual lashes, but thats more to do with my own impatience rather than the lashes themselves. I tend to get about 4/5 wears out of each set, and at about £5 a pair they don't break the bank either.
Too Faced Hangover Primer
Primer is one of those things which I could never bring myself to invest in, I had plenty of samples of the classic Smashbox primer which I was getting by on. I tried a sample of the hangover primer in a gift set and I was converted, it feels so soft and moisturising on the skin and really helps my foundation to apply smoothly.
Becca Highlighter in 'Opal'
Everyones heard of 'champagne pop' the best selling highlighter from Becca, however when I swatched the shade in Sephora it was just a bit too dark for my skin. With some help from the sales attendent I picked out Opal which is much better suited for fairer skin. I can now see why the Becca highlighters are so pricey, they feel super luxurious and the colour payoff is great, they're certainly an investment piece but well worth the money.
Jo Malone 'Basil and Neroli' Cologne
I actually received this full sized cologne in return for filling out a survey from Jo Malone, its a really unique scent and probably not one I would usually gravitate towards however it makes a nice change from the sweet flowery scents I normally wear. Basil and Neroli is a wonderfully fresh scent, which I can imagine will be great for Spring/Summer.
'Stella' by Stella McCartney Perfume
I've actually had this perfume for about a year or so but I kept it in the box for fear of not liking it. (All this is down to one bad experience I had with another perfume I was given as a present which used to give me awful headaches.) One day I finally made it down to Boots and managed to have a spritz of the tester, thankfully I actually really liked the scent at its now become a staple in my routine. (Win!)
I hope you've enjoyed this rambly little run down of a few of my favourite products from 2017, I'm looking forward to seeing what new products and experiences 2018 brings.
Happy New Year!
